Iron Craft: All Things Wedding

I made a small veil for my daughters First Holy Communion.  I had a feeling it would be pretty easy if I kept it simple.  I kept worrying about when I was going to make it.  When the challenge for this weeks Iron Craft was wedding, I decided this would be the perfect time.  And not a moment too soon as we just got home yesterday. I had everything ready just had to do it.  Took me under an hour to make.  I saved us some big bucks.  More importantly I made something for my daughter that came from my loving two hands for her special day. I am starting to get a little teary so lets move one shall we?

Here is the video that I used as my guide.  Although I did not do the wreath type headband, I used a few of her tips. 

8 Is Great Quilt

Here is what I have been up to lately. I have been working on three quilts at the same time. Crazy? Yeah I know. But not really. You see, I was working on one scrappy quilt and was left with the same size piece left over after I cut what I wanted so I made a scrappy quilt with those pieces. Then it kind of grew from there.

This one is going to be the "8 Is Great" quilt.  My daughter loves to draw, as most kids do.  I love her drawings.  I think they are pretty darn good for an eight year old.  Like this cat- isnt he the cutest?

This bear may be a bit wonky but he is lovable, as all bears are.

This one is the star of the show.  He is who started the whole thing.  He is a favorite character that she draws over and over again.  Straight out of her imagination and onto the paper.  She created a story about him at school too.

I hope to have it all together in the next week or so to show you.

Iron Craft Challenge: Topeepiary

The challenge this week for Iron Craft was all about peeps and marshmallows. It took me a while to figure out what I was going to make. Then the idea of a "topeepiary" came to mind.

I anchored the stick in foam and then a glass to secure, then wrapped a towel around and stuffed it down in.

I was going to use the green peeps for leaves but I underestimated the size of the ball and what was needed to fill it.

Iron Craft: Wish You Were Here

Can you see me sitting there in that little hut?  ... Me neither, but I am beginning my visualization process by hanging this little post card near my desk.  Each time I look at it I will picture myself in that little hut, on a lounge chair, sipping a tall glass of mint iced tea or some tropical drink.  Drawing, napping, relaxing. Whatever the acitivity, so long as it is warm and hospitable. 

The challenge this week for Iron Craft was a Wish You Were Here type Postcard.  I spaced the challenge until Monday night.  So my dreams of making this super cool went out the window.  I was thinking sand and sparkles on the outside... maybe some shells.  I think I will still work on it though.

You can't really see the decoupage but that is what I did.  I think it needs like ten more coats before I finish it up.
I found the picture on a soap wrapper that just so happened to smell like coconut.  I just used it this morning, closed my eyes and dreamed of coconut smelling lotion products, sitting on the beach.  It was a lovely thought, considering it was pretty chilly here today.

Thread Art and Science Projects

Do you remember thread art?  It was real popular in the 70's.

I was helping my daughter out with her science project.  The assignment was a 3D depiction of a few constellations.  I remembered these thread creations and I suggested it to her.  She agreed.  I have to say that I was super impressed with her nail job.  She did most of the work.  The threading was a bit more omplicated but she did pretty well. 

It was a lot of fun to do the project together. I love that it can be documented and saved in cyber space.  Great job chicky!

I did learn something too.  While I have always known about Orion, I have never actually spotted it in the night sky- at least not by myself.  A couple weeks ago, I saw it and showed my daughter.  That was a great moment for me because her science project came to life (and I was pretty proud of myself that I finally found it- I know you are all probably thinking what took me so long) .
