Paducah Quilt Show

These are all the quilts that caught my eye in Paducah Quilt Show this past week.  Amazing.  Of course seeing them up close is way better.  The detail on most of these is astounding.  Be it the quilting or the applique...

These are little squares that make up this quilt.

Daisy Jane... love it!

Second Quarter Finish Along

It's time for the second quarter challenge.  The months of April, May and June will be filled with free motion quilting on my domestic machine.  I have picked three projects.

The first thing I want to finish is what I said I would finish last quarter, Celtic Solstice.  Now I am nearly there.  I will finish this quilt top.  I have 6 more rows to go of 11.

I finished this quilt about a year ago. I really want to get it done and on a bed.

I finished this quilt, um, like, 3 years ago. I want it done.  Done!

Quarterly Finishes for QAL 2016

The first thing I finished was my bag because it was not so daunting as the other projects I picked to finish. Its my own design, kind of.  I tried to make the bag I use all the time.  I did okay.  I need to make it again to tweak it a little more.  But this bag is definitely usable.
The large quilt has 121 blocks.  I have completed 99.  That is as far as I got.  Believe me when I tell you, I worked on it a lot.  Its the chevron units that I have left to complete.
This is the block with the chevron units.

Seriously, what was I thinking...  Celtic Solstice by Bonnie Hunter.  I, of course, had chose the large size rather than the small size.  Again, what was I thinking.  When I did an internet search I saw that most people did the small size.  This was with good reason.  This is one big quilt.  All those pieces that make up the the 3 1/2 inch squares that the quilt is built with.  Yikes.  Not to say that other quilts aren't time consuming.  But tell me why did I pick it for this quarterly challenge.  That's what I want to know.  But here it is. Nearly finished.  I got as far as I could go in the time frame and believe me I worked on it.

I also chose this one.  Again, why did I choose this WITH the Bonnie one.  Lessons learned.  It did propel me to finish these.  This is a pattern I seen on the internet.  I have no idea what size squares the person used.  I made it my own.  I did mine in three 1/2 inch squares.  I love how it came out.

Its twin size but I am not sure, I might go out a little larger.  I know, my dear friend told me, be done with it and move on.  But it is telling me it wants to be full size....  So for right now, it is in limbo, awaiting my decision.  It may just stay twin...
 A closer shot.

The thing with this pattern is that you can only sew it row by row.  No pile of blocks waiting to be put together...

So, now, I will choose more wisely for the next quarter.
